ABOUT OUR CANDLES: they are handpoured and hand made so there will be some variation of scent, size, colour, and/or pattern in between all batches made with our products.
Only soy wax is used in producing the candles and melts at Seabreeze Soaps and Gifts. It is 100% pure natural professional soy wax and is a natural alternative vegetable wax. This soy wax contains no GMO material! NO paraffin, NO unnatural additives and are Kosher certified.
I WILL NOT AND DO NOT USE PARAFFIN WAX . Nor should anyone, as paraffin can potentially be bad for your health! Not to mention candles or melts which use paraffin WILL NOT include that they are paraffin on the label! Also paraffin is petroleum based. Paraffin is the final byproduct in the petroleum refining chain. I wouldn’t trust inhaling that stuff in. It will also produce more soot than soy wax. Paraffin also burns faster and hotter than soy. This is why burn times of soy wax is SOOOO much longer and burns cleaner.
PURE TEXTILE GRADE COTTON WICKS are used in all our candles. Avoid lead wicks at all costs especially from imported candles from overseas. Read the full article HERE which includes the following:
From the United States Environmental Protection Agency Research and Development in the January 2001 article titled, “Candles and Incense as Potential Sources of Indoor Air Pollution: Market Analysis and Literature Review,” I learned that “most” manufacturers in the United States have agreed not to use lead in the wicks of candles. “Most” bothered me. What bothered me even more is that 34.8 percent and 13.4 percent of candles imported are from China and Hong Kong respectively where the rules and regulations do not include strict adherence to the same standards as United States candle manufacturers. That is just a nice way of saying that there are many toxic substances in candles imported from China and Hong Kong.
I just burnt a SMALL Sandalwood candle and it burned for about 18 hours! Even though other estimates only suggested 12-14. The wax also did not leave any residue around the holder so easy to clean and reuse! If you return a used candle after being bought from us then you can get a great discount for a refill!
CANDLE CARE
- When lighting a candle for the first time, do not extinguish the candle until the wax melts across entire surface to the sides of glassware (this will help prevent tunneling and creates an even burn for the duration of the candle’s ‘life’) Depending on your environment, this may take anywhere from 2-4 hours.
- Trim the wick to 5 mm before each burn. (the MOST IMPORTANT TIP of all!!) This will promote an even burn, steady flame and will help limit sooting and mushrooming of wick.
- If soot forms on the inside of your glassware, simply extinguish your candle and wait for it to cool. Then wipe with a clean damp cloth or paper towel. Trim the wick and relight.
- Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches and debris at all times.
- Always extinguish candles with a snuffer, or dip the wick into melted wax. Do not blow out the flame. Snuff your candle out by dipping the lit wick into the melt pool this stops smouldering and smoking.
- Eliminate draughts from your environment where possible. Draughts decrease burn time, cause uneven burning, increased smoking and diminish scent throw.
- An efficient burn is evident when your flame is not flickering, is teardrop shaped and standing upright.
- If your candle begins to smoke, flicker or the candle flame becomes too high; extinguish your candle at once. These signs indicate the candle is not burning properly and the flame isn’t controlled. Let your candle cool, trim the wick, then check for draughts before re-lighting.
- Maximise your scent throw by keeping windows and doors closed. For maximum fragrance keep your environment closed up, light your candle and burn in desired space for 30 mins before entering.
- Always store candles in a cool, dark and dry place.
- Avoid placing a candle where it will be directly exposed to sunlight or harsh indoor lighting, such as a spotlights. Exposure to these may cause discolouring of your candle.
- Set your candle on a stable, flat surface, perhaps with a protective plate underneath.
- Burn your candle within sight, never leave unattended and extinguish with care.
- If burning more than one candle at a time leave 100mm between them.
- Always trim the wick before re-lighting.
- Never burn your candle on or near anything flammable.
- Keep out of reach of children and pets.
- Glass and molten wax may be hot when the candle is lit, please handle with care.
- Do not burn if wax level is below 1cm.
- Never use the container lid to put out flame.
